What others have said about Publish Your Patterns....

New Designer
I am very new at trying to publish a design. This book was recommended to me and I found out why. Well written and easy to understand directions from beginning to end. I was terrified to try and publish a quilt design until I read this book. Following step by step instructions made it easy and fun. It could be labeled "Publishing for Dumbies", the index is very specific and the book is detailed. Good luck and I know you will get as much use out of it as I did.

Targeted How-to Information
Short on style but packed with terrific, detailed how-to information. A lot of start-your-own-business books seem to have mostly vague information. Not this one. Included are names of specific software that is helpful, printers, etc. If you have any thoughts of publishing patterns, you need this book. It will quickly become a much used reference guide.

Essential handbook for the Pattern Designer
I love this book. Very seldom does a book live up to its billing once I get it, but this one definitely does. Excellent writing style also.

Publish Your Patterns
This book was much more then I expected. It walks you thru step by step from conception to completion and all the variations. Great book.

I wish I had this 25 years ago
I had been designing for needlework, craft and quilting magazines on and off for over 25 years when I decided the time was right to start my own pattern business and take my hobby seriously. One of the first things I did (on the recommendation of several professional designers) was to purchase this book. I can't say enough good things about it. Through the years I've read literally dozens of book on selling your arts and crafts, home businesses, and the like, but this is the ONLY book I've ever seen that gave designing one's own patterns more than just a couple of vague sentences, and specifically addressed the questions I had.

Pattern designed by McKenna Linn.

Don't publish your first pattern without it!
I was in the middle of writing my first pattern when something, somewhere, on the 'Net strongly suggested buying this book. I didn't think it would tell me much, but I bought it anyway, on the off chance that there would be some good tips in there. To make a long story short, I completely rewrote the pattern. I didn't follow every suggestion, but I used quite a few, and I think the pattern is much better for it. The big problem with this book is, if I buy another designer's pattern, I can put words to what drives me insane about it. (My sewing group thinks I should be an editor somewhere, largely because of this book.) There are even suppliers listed in the back of the book; I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered from one, and they called me a few days later to make sure I was happy. This is a great book. Don't publish without it!
