JGC - Julia Gray Creations - Julia Calvario

Julia Calvario.jpg While the love of sewing began as a young child learning to make doll clothes, Julia Gray soon advanced to making her own clothes. After over 35 years of making clothing, home dec, and gift items she finally realized her dream of learning to quilt. What began as an appreciation of family quilts and traditional patterns developed into a burning desire to learn how to make her own quilts. The pregnancies of two nieces and the upcoming graduation of her daughter were the inspirations to teach herself to quilt with the aid of quilting magazines designed for beginners. As the designs she envisioned and attempted became more complex she took advantage of quilting classes at various fabric stores. Articles in a wide variety of quilt magazines gave her access to the expertise of published quilters.

Julia retired from her career as a school teacher and took her passion for quilting to the next level. Dropping and chipping a couple of expensive rotary rulers as she was leaving a local quilt shop resulted in her designing a unique rotary ruler tote to easily and safely carry rulers. The excitement of other quilters who saw it at workshops led to her writing the instructions and publishing her first pattern, the Rotary Ruler Tote. This progressed to writing and publishing other patterns with the theory that interesting designs can appeal to experienced quilters without being out of reach of beginning quilters.
